New Paragraph
In our globalized world international marriages are very common.
Many non-German citizens get married in Germany and an increasing number of couples from Germany decide to tie the knot abroad.
Generally, a foreign marriage will be recognized as valid in Germany, as far as all the legal paperwork is authentic and correct.
You
Marriage Certificate (Marriage License & Marriage Certificate) would have to be translated into German by a sworn translator. This type of official translation is called
certified translation.
If you are a German citizen and get married abroad, you need to have your marriage officially registered in Germany as well. To do so, you must apply with the relevant Civil Registry Office.
Your foreign Marriage Certificate would have to be submitted to the authorities along with a certified translation.
In some cases, your foreign Marriage Certificate would have to have an additional authenticity confirmation - a legalization or an Apostille - to be accepted in Germany.
If this is the case, your original Marriage Certificate would have to be legalized before a certified translation is issued, since the legalization/Apostille would have to be included in the translation.
